ABB to work with Morrow Batteries on Norway battery cells project

Swiss technology group ABB is to work with Morrow Batteries on its development of a lithium-ion battery cells gigafactory in Norway.
The companies have signed a letter of intent for ABB to support the automation, electrification, and digitisation of Morrow's planned facilities in southern Norway – on the country’s so-called ‘battery coast’.
And the firms said they also intend to collaborate on "a common go-to-market approach, with highly-developed battery solutions as well as energy storage systems”.
Morrow CEO Terje Andersen said: "ABB will be an important partner to ensure world class automation and digitisation of our facilities to manage the manufacturing process, from the arrival of materials to the output of battery cell products.”
'Sustainable batteries'
"Our mission is to accelerate the green energy transition by developing and manufacturing cost effective and sustainable batteries… together with ABB we look forward to exploring the possibilities where we can deliver world class battery solutions.”
Last month, Morrow signed a final agreement that cleared the way for it to build its 42 GWh factory at the Eyde Energy Park.
Morrow will start building the plant’s first production ‘module’ in 2023, with production of battery cells starting in late 2024. A total of four modules will be completed in 2026.
