Aqua Metals hails milestone step for 'greener' lead battery recycling technology

Aqua Metals said today the lead battery industry is on course to play an even "greener and safer” role in the global market in 2021, thanks to the company’s completion of test runs for its AquaRefining technology programme.
The US lead-acid battery recycler said it has completed its V1.25L electrolyser programme "on time and under budget” – and achieving lead production that is 100% greater, compared to the V1.0 electrolyser deployed at its Nevada AquaRefinery during commercial production in 2018 and 2019.
The company previously guided a 20% increase of throughput, but said the V.125L electrolyser "surpassed that guidance by 500%”. The V1.25L programme concluded with a "multi-day 24/7 endurance run that ended on 24 December”.
'Greater value'
Aqua Metals CEO and president Steve Cotton said: "The results give us the ability to communicate a greater value proposition to future customers and should positively impact our economics of equipment supply and licensing agreements.”
"We believe the improvements realised with V1.25L position us quite well as product-ready in the ongoing discussions we’ve been having with recyclers all over the globe.”
Cotton said economic improvements demonstrated by its technology "strengthens our position tremendously to help the lead battery industry go greener and safer”.
"Cleaner recycling makes lead batteries a truly sustainable solution for an energy storage market that is becoming an increasingly critical part of the fast-developing sustainable energy-based economy.”
